They kill and torture needlessly. They pillage and burn. They are power-hungry bullies. They'll kill each other for an extra pawful of loot. They relish in the suffering of others. Back-stabbers and assassins, the whole lot of them. They are like many people who will kill to come to power, who value money more than friends.

Badgers and their hares

Badgers are the biggest and fiercest fighters. Possessed by the bloodwrath, they are incredibly strong in battle. Bloodwrath is battle madness, but in exaggerated form. They'll fight on even when wounded almost to the death. Hares are the longtime servants of badgers. They are perilous fighters, with huge appetites and an odd way of speaking. They are called the long patrol. Their war cries include "Eulalia, sssdeath on the wind, blood and vinegar!!!" The great mountain of Sallamandastron is where they make their home.

Welcome to the world of Redwall, chaps!

In this world there are jolly hares, industrious moles, rancid rats, fierce wolverines, playful otters, and above all, peaceful mice. This world has captured my imagination for four of my eleven years and I have read all nineteen books, more than twice. And what have I learned from that? That unless I turn that experience and preoccupation into something positive and creative, my parents are likely to cut me off from this world, since I can't just re-read these books over and over forever. So here is my first-ever blog, dedicated to connecting my life and world to that of Redwall, and to look more deeply at what the Redwall world is really about. It intrigues and delights me, and I hope you have had the same experience. Onward!
